2 March 2020

Mill View Care Home in Bolton has recently been rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The team were praised by inspectors who said Mill View was a place where ‘staff treated people with kindness, compassion and respect’.

The home, on Bridgeman Street in Bolton, provides care and support for up to 180 people, some of whom may be living with dementia.

The CQC said each of its five inspection criteria – is the service safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led? – were rated as ‘Good’, making the home fully compliant with the regulator.

The unannounced inspection included feedback from family members, residents and staff (including the registered manager and nurses).

Residents told inspectors that they rated the home and its staff very highly, particularly the level of training they received.

Comments included: “Very confident in staff”, “The nurses are brilliant” and the “[Staff are] “properly trained.”

Family members praised the quality of food on offer with one relative saying: “The food is absolutely excellent; I never need to say a word about the food.”

The caring attitude displayed by staff in the home was also given special mention in the final report.

One person told the inspectors: “They’ve looked after (my relative) and loved them from the minute they came here.”

Mill View Care Home Manager, Cheryl Wildman, said she was delighted that the home had received such a positive CQC report.

She said: “I want to thank the team for all their hard work and dedication because they are the reason we have received such a strong report.

“Every day we strive to provide the highest quality care and support for the people who call Mill View home. It’s wonderful to see that fact has been recognised by the inspectors.

“But we will not now rest on our laurels. We will continue to innovate and improve as we seek to become an outstanding home serving our local community.”

The report also praised the home for identifying people’s different religious and cultural needs and ensuring that these were met.
