Bedford Residents Remember Fallen Heroes By Creating Handmade Poppy Display

« Blog

Bedford Care Home marked this year’s Remembrance Day by creating a poppy display to honour the brave men and women who died in combat.

Residents and Colleagues in the Home based in Leigh, Greater Manchester, got together to make their own poppies as part of a crafting project to mark the annual memorial.

The handmade poppies were then combined to create a floral crucifix which formed part of the living room display. In addition, messages of appreciation, a picture of the unknown soldier and moving poems were included in the poignant tribute.

Home Manager Kelly Buckley said that it meant a lot to Residents to mark the special event.

Kelly said: “This year’s Remembrance Day was very different as we were not able to attend church services or community events.

“So, we wanted to give our Residents the chance to create a more personal tribute and to have the space to talk about the war and their memories of those difficult years.

“Everyone was pleased with the finished results, and we were glad to be able to pay tribute to fallen heroes in our own special way.”
