Parklands Court Care Home Summer Party Brings Fun Despite Rainy Weather

12 August 2024

On Saturday, August 10th, Parklands Court Care Home held its highly anticipated summer party, though the day started with a downpour that unfortunately dampened the mood and impacted attendance. Despite the rain, the event still saw a fair number of visitors.

The party featured a bouncy castle hired from West Midlands Inflatables, which brought joy to the children who attended. Local singer Linda Gretton was scheduled to perform outside, but the weather forced the event indoors. She instead performed at Samuel House, providing mid-morning entertainment for the residents, who thoroughly enjoyed the change of plans.

Children’s faces lit up as a local face painter worked her magic, and a craft table filled with paints, glitter, and bubbles kept young attendees engaged. The event also saw some lively moments with “Soak the Staff Member,” where the new maintenance man, Ryan—formerly the chef manager—courageously took on the challenge of getting drenched. The senior staff member, Jack, initially backed out of participating but ended up soaked at the end, much to the delight of onlookers.

The kitchen team, comprised of Dave, Wendy, and Trish, served up hot dogs and chips, which were a huge hit with everyone. In addition to the savory treats, cupcakes, ice cream, and a pop stall satisfied sweet cravings. Traditional games like “Guess the Teddy” and “Guess the Amount of Sweets” were also part of the festivities, adding to the fun.

Though the weather deterred some residents from joining in, a few families brought their loved ones outside to enjoy the day. The event raised £90 for the resident fund, a modest but appreciated contribution.

Reflecting on the day, staff acknowledged the challenges posed by the weather but remained optimistic. “Overall, it was a fun day, and hopefully next time we arrange this, it will be better weather with an even better turnout,” said Allie, wellbeing coordinator at Parklands.

With the raffle still to be drawn on Tuesday, August 13th, there is more excitement to come as 34 winners will be announced, adding a final touch to a day that, despite the rain, brought smiles and laughter to the Parklands Court community.
